The next evening (Sept. 28th) the Mt. Arlington Land Use Board will discuss the demolishing of another 28 acres of forest (between Lake Rogerene & Season’s Glen) in Mt. Arlington. PLEASE COME TO BOTH MEETINGS!!! WE NEED A BIG TURN-OUT for them! Developer wants to build over 70 more townhouses & condominiums in the forest, destroying the natural beauty of our countryside, shattering the wildlife & endangered species living there, creating additional traffic congestion/pollution, risks to our drinking water, & many more negatives... This has NOT been approved yet; it is NOT in accordance with our Government’s Smart Growth Plan (see below)! Let the developer and the politicians know how YOU feel about bad building proposals.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY:
From NJ Dept of Environmental Protection (A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE): (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/antisprawl/map.html): In NJ, “new development claims another 50 acres every
day, and 40 percent of this growth is occurring in critical natural resource areas and other environmental sensitive lands that must be preserved and protected…”

From NJ Dept of Community Affairs’ Office of Smart Growth (A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE):
http://www.state.nj.us/dca/osg/smart/index.shtml
“Smart Growth is the term used to describe well-planned, well-managed growth that adds new homes & creates new jobs, while preserving open space, farmland, & environmental resources… In NJ, Smart Growth supports development & redevelopment in recognized Centers—a compact form of development—as outlined in the State Development & Redevelopment Plan, with existing infrastructure that serves the economy, the community & the environment… Economic Prosperity - The Center for Urban Policy Research at Rutgers University projects tax savings of $160 million annually in municipal, county & school taxes, $870 million in local road costs & $1.45 billion in water & sewer infrastructure costs... On the jobs front, urban revitalization will help more businesses to stay or locate in NJ, encouraging small business & improving NJ's status as a corporate location.”

Pre-Land Use Board Meeting.
Info available re: Endangered Species and how to report them. Also, we'll have info re: how to take action re: changing NJ's terrible Endangered Species Habitat protection laws.
Network & Organize with your neighbors.
Discuss the proposed development in regards to other issues as well.
Reminder: the town's Land Use Board Meeting will be at 7:30PM on Wed., June 22nd at Mt Arlington Public School, 235 HOWARD BLVD, MT ARLINGTON. We NEED BIG NUMBERS OF PEOPLE FOR THAT. We hope you can attend both meetings. See you there!

More info I recently found from gov’t sites is below…

From NASA (A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE):

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2002/11oct_sprawl.htm

"We now understand that many environmental problems accompany the outward spread of cities: fragmenting and destroying wildlife habitat, for example, and discharging polluted runoff water into streams and lakes… Increased fragmentation due to urban development poses a threat to biodiversity primarily in animal populations, as their habitats are chopped up (fragmented) into smaller and smaller pieces."

WE WANT INTELLIGENT CITY PLANNING AS FOLLOWS…

From NJ Dept of Community Affairs’ Office of Smart Growth (A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE):

http://www.state.nj.us/dca/osg/smart/index.shtml

"Smart Growth is the term used to describe well-planned, well-managed growth that adds new homes and creates new jobs, while preserving open space, farmland, and environmental resources…"
