Hello Community - short notice, but this is an ongoing activity - so you can plug-in on a future canvass opportunity.

Staging information:
What: Canvass for Weatherization!
When: 12:00p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7th
Where: 1718 21st St NW (our office). We will be knocking in the Tenleytown area, just up the red line.

RSVP by email or call (202) 495-1328 to tell us you can make it!

WeatherizeDC, the local non-profit effort to weatherize 200 homes by March, is getting out into the community to spread the word about how energy efficiency can reduce our carbon emission, save homeowners money, and create good green jobs to revitalize our local economy.

We will have our second weekly campus-community joint Canvass for Weatherization tomorrow! Don't worry if this is your first time knocking door-to-door, the session will begin with a training session to get you oriented and familiar with the materials and message.

Volunteers are the carpenters of the model green city we aim to build. Just a couple hours of your time can lead to 2 homes being weatherized, the equivalent of taking 6 cars off the road. It's a small of time that can have a huge impact!

RSVP by email or call (202) 495-1328 to tell us you can make it :0)

Do not go to the DC Chamber of Commerce, it will be closed.

I may not (probably not) be able to attend because I am helping a friend finish preparing their condo apartment for rental during the inauguration. Please send me an email through the email link on the Meetup site as to how the event went. Thank you.

TRICK-OR-TREAT With D.C. Sierra Club and WeatherizeDC!

Date/time: Saturday, October 31, 1:00 pm Costumes encouraged
Location Georgetown University neighborhood (SEE NOTE BELOW)
ICC Building - training, materials and starting point
http://explore.georgetown.edu/locations/index.cfm?Action=View&LocationID=90
Contact: Amanda Brinton, 202-363-4366, amanda.brintonsierraclub.org
Dress: Weatherization or green-job-themed costumes are highly encouraged.

The Washington DC chapter of the Sierra Club will be partnering with WeatherizeDC to assist them in their efforts to help Washington DC become one of the most energy efficient cities in the nation!

WeatherizeDC is the project of a local non-profit effort to weatherize 200 homes in Northwest DC by March. They are organizing communities to weatherize homes block by block, due to the fact that WeatherizeDC can receive community discounts from local contractors if the weatherization of homes is done in large groups. This is your chance to take direct action that will help reduce carbon emissions and create good green jobs here in DC. WeatherizeDC, along with the DC Chapter of the Sierra Club, will be Trick or Treating for Weatherization this Saturday around Georgetown University. We will be knocking on doors and signing up homeowners to have their homes weatherized, reduce their carbon footprint, and save on their energy bills.

Check out the video of a recent WeatherizeDC canvass!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fj3YOTcxUQ

Just a couple hours of your time can lead to 2 homes being weatherized, the equivalent of taking 6 cars off the road. It's a small amount of time that can have a huge impact!

Meet at 1:00 p.m. to pick up materials and get a quick training on what to say and how to canvass. The generic campus address for Georgetown University is 37th Street NW and O Street NW, and several buses serve that portion of Georgetown. The DC Sierra Club and WeatherizeDc group will be meeting at the
ICC Building, which does not have a street address: please consult this map for precise location--

http://explore.georgetown.edu/locations/index.cfm?Action=View&LocationID=90

Costumes encouraged! Please dress appropriately for an afternoon trip around the neighborhood. Weatherization or green-job-themed costumes are highly encouraged. :)

Please RSVP to amanda.brinton@sierraclub.org or call (202) 363-4366 with any questions (or great costume ideas!)

From Monika Thiele, organizer of DC Green Connection:

Greetings DC Green Connection Members and Friends!

I hope you are enjoying the fall colors which really seem to have popped this weekend! I'm out here on the Chesapeake Bay looking the sun dappled leaves and Canadian geese flying south, getting ready to migrate back to DC myself.
Hopefully you've had a chance to peek at the information for this Thursday's DC Green Connection event featuring the topic of travel and tourism. How can we all take steps to travel more lightly and apply green practices to our choices for transportation, lodging, dining and tour operators?
Chris Seek, board member of Sustainable Travel International (a non-profit), will guide us through today's tourism landscape and share tips for traveling more responsibly. Chris is also President of Solimar International, a DC-based sustainable tourism consulting firm that provides strategy, training, investment and marketing services to tourism businesses and associations around the world.
The presentation will start at 6:00pm followed by a networking reception and information about STI's green travel auction! Go online now to check out some of our great eco-travel specials! All proceeds go to benefit STI's mission to promote responsible travel and ecotourism, support sustainable development, and help travelers and travel providers protect what's best about the destinations we visit.
Our green hosts for the evening, Busboys & Poets, are a certified B corporation, meaning that they apply high standards of social and environmental performance which you can learn more about on Thursday.
Please join us and bring your friends to help spread the word about traveling green!
Green regards,
Monika Thiele
