Dear Upper Green Siders
We will be hosting our first ever Upper Green Side fundraising event and we want to bring out as many people as possible. We will have a room to ourselves at a new local restaurant.
We will ask for a donation of $10.00 at the door (but you can donate as much as you would like) and have reduced priced beer and other drinks inside. We will also have a UGS T-shirts and reuseable canvas bags for sale and a raffle with local green stuff as prizes.
As you know, Upper Green Side is an all volunteer neighborhood environmental advocacy organization. We have worked on a number of projects in the neighborhood already including:
1. Bringing (and sustaining) local food greenmarkets at St. Stephen's Church and the Stanley Isaac's Center
2. Advocating for traffic relief and safe streets for greener forms of transportation - walking, cycling and mass transit
3. Conducting a local transportation survey that highlighted the impact of traffic congestion on our area
4. Setting up a network of battery recycling bins to help reduce the bad chemicals that enter our waste stream.
5. Assisted in a neighborhood tree bed survey to identify sites to plant new street trees
6. Educating local elected officials of the importance of environmental issues in all the decisions they make
Learn more about us and what you can do to help on our website. Click on the "DONATE" button on the upper right hand corner of the website and make your tax-deductible donation today.
But we have even bigger plans for the future. We would like to organize E-waste recycling events, distribute efficient CFL bulbs to low-income residents, spread awareness of local green resources through our "green guide" and much, much more. Our goal is to raise over $5,000 by the end of the year.
If you would like to help us organize the event, we still need a few volunteers and people willing to donate items to include in the raffle.
Bring your friends, bring your neighbors. We will have fun and help support local environmental projects.
